Why say no to tobacco?

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

World No Tobacco Day has begun to draw worldwide attention to the tobacco epidemic and the avoidable death and suffering it causes. The day contributes to the pervasive prevalence of tobacco use and adverse health effects that result in more than 8 million deaths annually and nearly 1.2 million non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke.

Do you know?

In addition to putting you at stake for life-threatening diseases, tobacco can cause damage to the brain. The changes that may be made are similar to the effects of using drugs such as heroin or cocaine.

Tobacco impacts human well-being from an environmental point of view – that is, the indirect social and economic harm incurred by the growth, production, sale, use, and disposal of tobacco products

The biggest reason to stop smoking is that it will kill you, but to some people, it strangely isn’t enough to get them to stop. Let me tell you a little bit more about that. It’s going to change your whole appearance as well as your hygiene. Smoking stains your teeth, nails, and leaves a near-permanent stench on your body.

Trust me when I say this, whenever you’d stop smoking, you would begin to note that your teeth would shine whiter, your nails would no longer look rusty, and your breath would smell healthier. Below are some tips which can curb your cravings:

● Delay as much as you can until you give in to the temptation.

● Take a deep breath to calm from the inside until the desire vanishes.

● Drink as much water as you can. It is a better alternative than to put a cigarette in

your mouth.

● Keep yourself engaged. Go out for a walk, take a shower, or either listen to music.

There are approximately 1.3 billion tobacco users around the world. Tobacco kills life every four seconds. Tobacco consumption leads to poverty by diverting household expenditure from necessities like food and housing to tobacco. This spending pattern is impossible to curtail because tobacco is so addictive. It also causes premature death and disease in adults.

‘Say No To Tobacco’ emphasizes the fact that tobacco smoking undermines the health and social well-being of all people in the region. From children to adults, whether they be men or women. So please quit before it’s too late. Be honest with yourself and care about yourself and those around you!
